International Academic Conference “East–West: A Dialogue of Languages and Cultures”
On 26–27 June 2025, Pomeranian University in Słupsk hosted the international academic conference “East–West: A Dialogue of Languages and Cultures”, organized by the Department of Modern Languages and the Department of English Language.
The event was officially opened by the Rector of Pomeranian University in Słupsk, professor Zbigniew Osadowski. On behalf of the organizers, welcome speeches were also delivered by:
- Professor Krystyna Krawiec-Złotkowska – Director of the Institute of Philology,
- Professor Galina Nefagina – Chair of the Organizing Committee,
- Professor Danuta Gierczyńska.
Following the opening session, a promotional event was held for the post-conference monograph “East–West: Influences, Contexts, Inspirations. Studies on Culture, Literature, and Language”, edited by professor Danuta Gierczyńska, Idalia Smoczyk-Jackowiak, PhD, and Joanna Flinik, PhD. The presentation was moderated by Szczepan Kolada, Director of the University Library in Słupsk.
The conference brought together scholars from Poland and abroad, and the sessions were conducted in four languages: Polish, English, German, and Russian. The presented papers addressed a wide range of topics, including:
- Literature and culture of (e)migration,
- History in literary context,
- Contemporary literary genres and forms,
- Linguistics from synchronic, diachronic, and glottodidactic perspectives,
- Pragmalinguistics and discourse analysis,
- Foreign language didactics.
A highlight of the conference was the thematic session “Reading Abai: History and Perspectives of Kazakh Culture in the Eurasian Space”, which drew significant interest and engagement from participants.
